Company history

Headquarters in Nikolaistraße 11, Hanover

The company was founded in Hanover in 1885 by the Hanoverian businessman Johannes Carl Kayser . In 1905, the company's headquarters in Nikolaistraße was established with the construction of a warehouse and administration building, which is still part of the company's fixed assets today. Until 1964 the limited partnership JC Kayser & Giesecke KG had its seat at Nikolaistraße 11 in Hanover. As a paper wholesaler, Kayser & Giesecke was active in the regions around the main location in Hanover and in the Dresden and Krefeld branches. The company also developed its own watermark papers , especially for business stationery , under the brand names Bankpost 1885 , Typewriters Post 1885 , Edel-Hartpost Reflex and Kayser & Giesecke Eichenpost , some of which were produced exclusively for the company.

JC Kayser & Giesecke is still in the hands of the founding family and their descendants. The Dresden branch became independent in 1929 as JC Kayser & Co KG through the takeover of two of the founder's sons. The Krefeld branch was closed in 1963. In 1964, the operative business of the paper wholesaling was brought into the newly founded company Vereinigte Papiergroßhandlungen GmbH & Co. KG (today: vph GmbH & Co. KG ) as part of a company merger . Since then, JC Kayser & Giesecke KG has been a partner in today's vph GmbH & Co KG . The company is based in Hemmingen near Hanover and is a shareholder of the Igepa Group .

The head office of the company now trading as JC Kayser & Giesecke GmbH & Co. KG at Nikolaistraße 11 was completely renovated in the 1980s . The Club Voltaire , founded in the late 1960s, was temporarily located in one part of the building .
