Jeffrey "JJ" Koval, Jr. (born May 19, 1992 in Westlake Village ) is a retired American football player who was mostly used as a midfielder . He was most recently under contract with Sacramento Republic .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Koval played for Real So Cal, a club from his home district, in his youth. He then played for four years for the Stanford Cardinals, the football team at Stanford University . For this he completed a total of 74 games.

Club career

Koval was chosen as the ninth pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by the San José Earthquakes on January 16, 2014 . After he signed a professional contract there, he made his competitive debut for the Earthquakes on March 11, 2014 in a game of the CONCACAF Champions League .

On February 27, 2016, Koval was released from his contract with the Earthquakes. Shortly thereafter, he was signed by Sacramento Republic , to which he was previously loaned.

After the 2016 season, Koval announced on December 21, 2016 that he was retiring from professional sports and ending his career.
