Structure of the 98th Paratrooper Division

JANMAM ( Unit 7298 , also Sajeret JANMAM ) is a special unit of the Israel Defense Forces . The name is an acronym of Jechidat Neged Metosim Mut'znahat ( German  air defense - parachutist unit ). The focus of the unit is on camouflage in enemy territory and long-term observation as a long-range spy . It belongs to the 98th Paratrooper Division, also known as the Fire Formation ( Hebrew עֻצְבַּת הָאֵשׁ, Utzbat HaEsh). This is subordinate to the Israeli Central Command .

JANMAM is part of the Air Defense Command of the Israeli Air Force . The armed forces provide air defense protection for special forces who have to carry out reconnaissance missions, therefore they must have excellent orientation and field combat skills and have acquired the parachutist badge. Due to the nature of the mission, personnel and equipment for the troops will be transported by air, which is why the troops will mainly come from the Israeli Paratrooper Brigade ( Hebrew חטיבת הצנחנים, Chativat ha-Zanchanim). The main task is to be ready for action quickly and to ensure a strong but very focused defense for a limited period of time until stronger, regular forces arrive on the scene.

The unit uses the FIM-92 Stinger , an infrared guided anti- aircraft missile, and the American High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle ( Humvee for short ), known as the Hummer .
