Michael Kolb

Michael Kolb (* 1954 in Stuttgart ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Kolb completed a teaching degree in German and sport at the universities of Karlsruhe and Mannheim between 1974 and 1979. In November 1979 he passed the first and in July 1981 the second state examination for teaching at grammar schools. In 1980 and 1981 Kolb did a legal clerkship at the seminar for education and didactics in Esslingen . From 1981 (and until 1989) he studied educational sciences at the University of Cologne and from 1983 also completed a doctorate in the subjects of pedagogy and philosophy at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and worked from 1981 to 1988 initially as a student assistant, then as a research assistant at the DSHS educational seminar. In March 1989 he completed his doctoral thesis at the DSHS and was then employed again as a research assistant at the sports university.

In 1991 Kolb took up a position as a research assistant at the Institute for Sport and Sports Science at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität (CAU) in Kiel , from 1992 to 1998 he was assistant at the CAU and from 1998 to 2000 senior assistant. In April 1998 he completed his habilitation with Herbert Haag in Kiel. From 1999 and 2000, Kolb was a substitute professor for sports education at the Institute for Sport and its Didactics at the University of Dortmund.In October 2000, he took up a professorship for movement and sports education at the Institute for Sport Science at the University of Vienna , after having previously held a C4 professorship for Had rejected sports education at the University of Dortmund.

From 1995 to 1997 Kolb sat at the German Association for Sport Science (DVS) on the spokesman's council of the committee "Scientific Offspring", from 2000 to 2002 he was deputy spokesman for the DVS section for sport education and during the same period was a board member of the Austrian Sport Science Society (ÖSG ). From 2001 to 2014 Kolb was editor of "Spectrum der Sportwissenschaften", the journal of the Austrian Society for Sports Science. In 2016 he was once again accepted into the board of the ÖSG.

Kolb's research areas include topics such as sports games, physical education, exercise and sports opportunities in leisure time in urban areas, skateboarding, freestyle sports, health projects in sports clubs, aging and sports.
