The Tonna correctional facility (JVA Tonna) is a correctional facility in the Gräfentonna district of the Tonna municipality in Thuringia .
She is responsible for:
- First execution on male prisoners with a term of more than five years
- Regular execution on male prisoners with a prison sentence of more than two years and six months
- life imprisonment
- Pretrial detention on male persons aged 21 and over from the Mühlhausen district court .
The prison was opened in 2002 after a two-year construction period. It occupies an area of 15.5 hectares and has a total of 589 detention places, of which 529 are in closed prison and 60 in open prison . In the prison, the prisoners produce baked goods, gardening products as well as locksmith and carpentry products in various institutions. In addition, services of the car workshop and laundry are offered.
history
The history of JVA Tonna begins with its opening in 2002, before that the Kettenburg served as a penal institution for over 130 years .
Those in preventive detention from Thuringia are no longer imprisoned in Tonna, but in the Schwalmstadt prison in Hesse. Thuringia contributed accordingly to the construction costs for the newly created complex in Schwalmstadt for those in safe custody.
