The correctional facility Untermaßfeld is a moated castle used as a correctional facility in the municipality of Untermaßfeld in Thuringia . She is responsible for the regular execution of male prisoners up to two years and six months, with the exception of prison sentences of up to six months from the district court district of Gera.
history
The moated castle dates from around 1150–1200. The entire external works were demolished at the end of the 17th century. In 1813 the Untermaßfeld labor and prison was opened as the central penal institution of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . After years of renovation, expansion, closure and commissioning, a 6 m high asylum wall was built around the building in 1997.

The correctional facility has a total of 357 prison places, 345 of which are closed and 12 open . There are 174 employees.
