Reiser Collection

From 1914 to 1958 the Reiser collection was continuously accessible to the public in various municipal buildings and was continuously expanded. In 1971 the concept of the collection was renewed: The rock collection was categorized according to the usual division into six geological building units, which make up the Allgäu Alps and the foothills of the Alps . These rocks, photographs and reliefs show the mountain forms and geological profiles , whereby the history of the origin of the Kempten soil and the surrounding area is given attention. The mineral room set up in 1988 with the motto “Minerals from all over the world” in the Zumsteinhaus rounded off the “Minerals” topic. The Zumsteinhaus will be converted into the new Kempten Museum in 2018. It has not yet been decided where the Reiser collection will be shown in the future.
