Ilya Repin : The resurrection of the daughter of Jairus

The story of the resurrection of the twelve-year-old daughter of Jairus ("Jairi's little daughter") is told in the New Testament in Mk 5,35-43  EU , Matt 9,23-26  EU and Lk 8,49-56  EU .

Jaïrus was synagogue leader in Galilee. His daughter became seriously ill and no one could help her. Then Jairus heard of Jesus and went to him. He asked him to help his daughter. Jesus went with him. On the way, servants and family members rushed to meet the group and reported that Jairus' daughter had recently died. There were also many mourners present, and Jesus said to them: “What are you making noise and crying? The child has not died, but sleeps! ”(Mk 5:39 and Lk 8:52). Those present laughed at Jesus and asked him to show a little more piety.

The resurrection of the daughter of Jairus is described in more detail in Mark . Jesus is said to have taken the dead girl's hand and said the Aramaic words “Talita kum!” (Girl, I tell you, get up!). Immediately afterwards, Jairus' daughter woke up. Jesus then instructed those standing by to feed the daughter.
