Jaan Kiivit junior

Jaan Kiivit (junior) (born February 19, 1940 in Rakvere , Estonia ; † August 31, 2005 in Saint Petersburg , Russia ) was a Protestant theologian and archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church based in Tallinn .

Jaan Kiivit, the son of the former Estonian Archbishop Jaan Kiivit (senior), was ordained by his father in 1966 and served as pastor of the Holy Spirit Church in Tallinn for almost thirty years . In 1994 he was elected Archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELK) and held the office until his retirement in February 2005. He was succeeded by Andres Põder .

Jaan Kiivit (junior) died in Saint Petersburg on the way to a reception on the occasion of the farewell and the 80th birthday of Archbishop Georg Kretschmar , spiritual head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia (ELKRAS).

Jaan Kiivit (junior) had already been active in the field of external and partner relations of his Estonian church since 1980 and was therefore a responsible member of the consistory . From 1980 to 1994 he was a lecturer in practical theology at the EELK Theological Institute in Tallinn.
