Jaap Mansfeld

Jaap Mansfeld (born August 12, 1936 ) is a Dutch philosopher and historian of philosophy. He was a professor at the University of Utrecht . His focus is on doxography , his best-known work is a new edition of the fragments of the pre-Socratics in two volumes based on the Diels-Kranz edition .

Mansfeld began his studies in 1954 at the University of Utrecht, where he in 1964 with a thesis on Parmenides doctorate was. From 1973 until his retirement in 2001 he was professor of ancient philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University. Since 1989 he has been a full member of the Academia Europaea . In 1991 he was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW).
