Jachnun or Jahnun (d͡ʒaχˈnun, Hebrew : גַ׳חְנוּן) is an Israeli pastry made by Yemeni Jews that is served on Sabbath morning .

preparation

Jachnun is baked in the oven over night. It consists of thinly rolled out dough, which is coated with clarified butter before baking and rolled up into a cylinder like a puff pastry. Jachnun has a dark amber color after baking and tastes slightly sweet. Traditionally, a dip made from chopped tomatoes is served with it, as well as hard-boiled eggs and S-chug ( Hebrew סחוג, Arabic سحوق, DMG Saḥawaq ), a Yemeni seasoning sauce .

The dough used to make Jachnun is also used to make Malawach , another Yemeni pastry.
