Jacintha Saldanha (born March 26, 1966 in Mangalore , India , † December 7, 2012 in London ) was a nurse in a private clinic in London. She achieved fame as one of the nurses at the Duchess of Cambridge . Saldanha committed suicide after a joke phone call from Australian radio host couple Mike Christian and Mel Greig .

Saldanha worked in a private clinic in London that treated Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge . The presenters of an Australian radio show, Mel Greig and Mike Christian, called the clinic pretending to be Elizabeth II and Charles, Prince of Wales , respectively , with the aim of finding out more about the health of the Duchess of Cambridge. Saldanha was one of the moderators' two interlocutors. After the recording of the phone call was broadcast and the news about the call triggered worldwide media coverage, Saldanha was found dead in her apartment on December 7, 2012. The death of Saldanha, who, according to the autopsy report, hanged herself with a scarf, triggered a worldwide media coverage. The presenters of the radio show were suspended from the station on December 8, 2012 and the show was taken off the program.
