Jack Davis

Jack Davis (born March 14, 1917 in Yarloop , Western Australia , † March 17 , 2000 in Fremantle ) was an important Australian playwright and poet. He was himself an Aboriginal of the Noongar tribe . Davis campaigned for indigenous rights, and much of his works dealt with the experiences of the Aborigines. He has been hailed as the distinguished Aboriginal poet of the 20th century and many of his dramas are on the curriculum in Australian schools.
