Jack Smith (racing driver)

Jack Smith (born May 24, 1924 in Metropolis , Illinois , † October 17, 2001 in Spartanburg , South Carolina ) was an American NASCAR racing driver.

Career

He drove his first NASCAR race in 1949 and is a member of the NMPA Hall of Fame in Darlington, South Carolina.

He made his debut in the first NASCAR race in 1949 at Charlotte Speedway , finishing 13th in 1964, retiring from his career. He won 21 races. He won NASCAR's Most Popular Driver Award in 1959.
