Jackie Cerone actually John Philipp "Jackie The Lackey" Cerone (* July 7, 1914 , † July 26, 1996 ) was an Italian-American mobster and the late 1960s head of the Chicago Outfit .

biography

Jackie was the child of John Cerone Sr. and Rose Valant ; he was the younger brother of Frank "Skippy" Cerone, who also became a full member of the American Cosa Nostra. Jackie was tall and strongly built, which made him a suitable "enforcer" (English: enforcer for the Mafia) and led to numerous arrests; u. a. armed robbery, illegal gambling and betting, embezzlement . He has been linked to the murder of loan shark William "Action" Jackson .

During the 1950s, Cerone was Anthony Accardo's driver and was subsequently promoted in particular by Sam Giancana . He was assigned to the Elmwood Park Crew , a street crew of the outfit, of which he was the leader ( Caporegime ). His area of influence in western Chicago stretched from Chicago River West over Harlem Avenue to the northern Eisenhower Expressway .

In 1967 he succeeded Sam Battaglia as head of the Chicago Outfit - allegedly Paul Ricca and Anthony Accardo should have used the summer months to decide for Cerone - because Cerone was imprisoned in 1966.

This should also happen to Cerone, because by this time the FBI had already had him and others in their sights and was able to gain an informant in prison . Louis "Lou" M. Bombacino was arrested for robbery in July 1965 and was now smuggled into the outfit circles as a bookmaker , which he did until the summer of 1967. It then took the prosecutor until 1969 to bring the case to court, and the statements made by "Lou" played an important role in this. The trial of Jackie Cerone, Joe Ferriola , Don Angelini, Dom Cortina, and Frank Aurelio began on August 19, 1968 and ended on May 9, 1970. The original five years imprisonment for each of those involved became in fact only three years ; but the Pentito Bombacino was blown up by a car bomb on October 6, 1975. 1986 Cerone was with Joseph Aiuppa , Joseph Lombardo , Angelo Lapietra , Milton J. Rockman and Carl DeLuna because of financial levies of casinos in Las Vegas sentenced in the amount of two million US dollars. In 1996 he was released shortly before his death.
