from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph Anthony Ferriola (born March 16, 1927 in Chicago , Cook County (Illinois) , † March 11, 1989 in Houston , Harris County (Texas) ); also known as Joe Nagall , Mr. Clean, and Oscar ; was an Italian-American mobster of the American Mafia and head of the Chicago Outfit .

biography

Joseph Anthony Ferriola was the father of Nicholas Ferriola - should follow in his footsteps as a professional criminal - and grew up on the notorious Near West Side of Chicago .

Leonard "Fat Lennie" Caifano , the brother of Marshall Joseph Caifano , who paved the way for him in the Chicago outfit , can be considered a mentor .

In 1970 Ferriola and four other gangsters were charged with illegal gambling and sentenced to five years in prison, three of which were served. He developed into one of the most important "enforcers" (am: "enforcers") of the outfit under boss Sam Giancana ; was considered cold-blooded and feared within the organization.

Besides, he was the Capo Regime of the Street Department in Cicero (Illinois) . In the modern mafia family he soon became something of a manager of the clan and from 1986 in principle head. He was then living in a 14-room mansion on Forest Glen Lane in Oak Brook, Illinois , which was then valued at $ 500,000, and which was just a mile from Joseph Aiuppa's property .

However, Ferriola got health problems and was replaced as boss in 1988. The following year he died in the Methodist Hospital in Houston after his second heart transplant as a patient of Michael E. DeBakey .

family

Ferriola's son Nicholas Ferriola - also a member of the Outfit - was sentenced to three years in prison on September 9, 2008 by Judge James Zagel .

Ferriola's nephew Harry Aleman was also a feared enforcer and hit man for the Chicago outfit and has been in custody since 2010.
