Jackson and his Computer Band is a music project by the French electronica musician Jackson Fourgeaud (* 1979). It gained notoriety in 2005 through the release of the single Rock On and the debut album Smash .

history

Jackson Fourgeaud began making music at the age of 15. With the release of the EP Sense Juice EP by the Sound Of Barclay label in 1998, his music was first released under the name Jackson & his Computer Band . Fourgeaud also gained fame through his remix of Truth Don Die by Femi Kuti .

In 2003 Fourgeaud began work on his first album, Smash . It was released in 2005 by the British label Warp Records . Previously, the single Rock On was released that same year . The piece Utopia from the album Smash was used in 2006 as background music for an O₂ commercial . In 2008 Jackson Fourgeaud moved to Berlin to work on his second album.

style

Fourgeaud's initial work was in the style of the acid house . Jackson and his Computer Band is often referred to as the IDM project today.

His debut album Smash , however, combines several styles. The styles IDM (e.g. Utopia , Radio Caca ), Glitch ( Utopia , Headache ), House (e.g. Arpeggio ) and also Hip-Hop ( TV Dogs (Cathodica's Letter) ) are named. However, these styles vary within a piece of music. Rock influences have also been introduced into the electronic chimes ( rock on , arpeggio ). Many pieces of music merge seamlessly on the album (e.g. Utopia and Rock On ).

The variety of styles on the Smash album can be explained, among other things, by the collaboration of various artists. In addition to the US hip-hop musician Mike Ladd ( TV Dogs (Cathodica's Letter) ), the French electro musician Mr. Oizo ( Oh Boy and Hard Tits ) also played.

The vocals for Fast Life and Utopia come from Fourgeaud's mother, the blues musician Paula Moore . Fourgeaud's niece, four years old at the time of recording, also worked on the album. The child's voice that can be heard in Oh Boy comes from her .
