Onotoa is an atoll in the Pacific archipelago of the Gilbert Islands and belongs to the state of Kiribati . It is located approx. 65 km northwest of Tamana , the smallest island in the archipelago.

geography

The atoll has its islands strung together on the east side, while the lagoon on the west side is bordered by coral reefs . The largest islands are Otoae (Otowae, Otoeie) in the southeast and Buariki ( Tanyah ) in the northeast, with four and two villages respectively. Between these two are three small, uninhabited islands: Abanekeneke , Naan Tabuariki and Abeiningan . The road that connects the two largest islands runs across these islands. The third inhabited island, Tabuarorae with the village of the same name, forms the southern tip of the atoll.
