Tamana is the smallest island in the Pacific archipelago of the Gilbert Islands . It belongs to the island state of Kiribati .

The 5 km long, about 1 km wide Tamana is located south-southeast of the Onotoa Atoll and west of the Arorae Atoll in the south of the Gilbert Islands. The population in 2005 was 875 and is declining. The main town of Bakaka includes the maneaba (meeting house), a church, a school and a hospital. Tamana is represented with one vote in Kiribati parliament, the Maneaba ni Maungatabu .

The island can be reached from the air via the Tamana airfield in the north .
