Jacob Duck
Jacob Duck (* around 1600 ; † January 22, 1667 in Utrecht ; also written Duyck ) was a Dutch painter .
Life
Duck worked in Haarlem around 1630–50 and painted in the style of Dirk Hals and A. Palamedes . Most of his pictures depict scenes from the life of a soldier or simple social pieces. They are of conscientious, somewhat stiff treatment and not particularly witty in expression, but of fine coloring and especially virtuoso in the rendering of shiny materials.
His pictures appear frequently in public and private collections. The Gotha Gallery owns five, the Liechtenstein Collection in Vienna four. In the past he was often confused with the animal painter Jan le Ducq and Johan le Ducq .
