Anthonie Palamedesz. (* 1601 in Delft ; † November 27, 1673 in Amsterdam ), also called Stevers , was a Dutch portrait and genre painter .

Life

Palamedesz. was the son of a gemstone cutter and pupil of Michiel van Mierevelt and Frans Hals . At the age of around 20, the painters' guild in his hometown accepted him as a member in 1621. Between 1653 and 1673 he was repeatedly dean of the guild.

In addition to his teachers Mierevelt and Hals, Palamedesz became. also influenced by Dirck Hals . Palamedesz found his subjects. in his hometown, where he captured scenes from folk life in ever new variations on the canvas. Due to the accurate representation with his attention to detail, Palamedesz was. also an important source for cultural history.

Works by him are in museums in Berlin , Brussels , Gotha , Copenhagen , Lille , Nantes , Paris , Rotterdam , Schwerin and Saint Petersburg .

He was the older brother of the battle painter Palamedes Palamedesz (1607–1638).
