Klaus Bussmann

Klaus Bußmann (born June 8, 1941 in Aachen ; † April 27, 2019 in Münster ) was a German art historian .

Life

Klaus Bußmann studied art history , sociology and history in Münster , Berlin , Basel and Paris and received his doctorate on the German architect Wilhelm Ferdinand Lipper . In Münster he was a consultant at the Westphalian State Museum for Art and Cultural History from 1968 to 1977 , professor for art history at the Münster University of Applied Sciences from 1977 to 1984 and director of the Westphalian State Museum for Art and Cultural History from 1985 until his retirement in 2004.

In addition, together with Kasper König , he was the curator and founder of the Skulptur.Projekte Münster and commissioner for the Federal Republic of Germany's two Golden Lion contributions to the Venice Biennale (1991 to Bernd and Hilla Becher and Reinhard Mucha , 1993 to Nam June Paik and to Hans Haacke ). From 1996 to 2004, Klaus Bußmann was chairman of the art advisory board of the federal government. He was the recipient of the German Critics Association Prize (1988), the Paulus Plaque of the City of Münster (1993) and the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (2005). At his suggestion, the museum part of the "Kulturforum Münster" (Museum of Contemporary Art), which has since failed due to the resistance of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe and the citizens of the city of Münster.
