Jacob Ernst Thomann von Hagelstein (also Nestus Thomann ; * around 1588 in Hagelstein near Weiler-Simmerberg ; † October 10, 1653 in Lindau (Lake Constance) ) was a German Baroque painter .

Life

After Joachim von Sandrart the Elder Ä. Teutsche Academie der Noble Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Künste Thomann von Hagelstein was born in Hagelstein, a village that today belongs to Weiler-Simmerberg . In 1605 he traveled to Italy where he lived for 15 years and toured cities such as Naples , Genoa and Rome . In Rome he was friends with the painters Adam Elsheimer , Pieter Lastman , and Jacob Pinas (1592–1650). Despite numerous friendships with Dutch painters, however, he was never in the Netherlands. After Elsheimer's death he returned to Germany, where he served in the service of Emperor Ferdinand III. kicked.

Thomann von Hagelstein died in Lindau in 1653.

According to the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie , Thomann von Hagelstein was a painter of religious motifs and landscapes.
