Jacob Thiessen

Jacob Thiessen (born March 6, 1964 in Loma Plata , Paraguay ) is a Paraguayan-Swiss theologian. He is the rector of the state-independent Theological University Basel ( STH Basel ).

Life

Thiessen has the citizenships of Paraguay and Switzerland . He studied from 1989 to 1994 theology in Riehen in Basel and received his doctorate in 1998 at the Free Seminar of Theology in Geneva for Doctor of theology (Dr. theol.). In Paraguay he worked a. a. as deputy pastor of the Emanuel Mennonite congregation in his hometown of Loma Plata (2001–2003). He has been a lecturer since 2004 and professor for the New Testament at the STH Basel since 2007 . He has also been the rector there since 2004.

His main research interests include NT introductory science, hermeneutics and exegetical methodology, and Israel theology. A critical reviewer of his book on Israel said of Thiessen: "He is very learned to do careful exegesis".
