Jacobabad District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Sindh Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Jacobabad .

The district has an area of ​​2686 km² and according to the census of 2017 1,006,297 inhabitants. The population density is 375 inhabitants / km². The Sindhi language is spoken by the majority in the district .

location

The district is located in the north of Sindh Province, which is located in southeastern Pakistan. The district borders on Balochistan in the north .

history

The name derives from the city of Jacobabad which was founded in 1847 by General John Jacob , an official of the British East India Company .

Demographics

Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 1.72% annually. Around 11% of the population live in urban regions and around 89% in rural regions. 515,480 men, 490,778 women and 39 transgender people live in 177,867 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 105 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan.

The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 35% (women: 19%, men: 50%) and thus well below the average of the Sindh province of 60%.
