Jacques Bompard

Jacques Bompard (born February 24, 1943 in Montpellier , Hérault department ) is a nationalist French politician and mayor of the city of Orange in the Vaucluse department .

Career

Bompard studied at the University of Montpellier and at that time was already supporting the right-wing extremist organization “ Organization de l'armée secrète ”, which tried to violently prevent Algeria from becoming independent from France. Later he became a member of the organization Occident, which was also on the far right . In 1972 he and Jean-Marie Le Pen played a key role in founding the Front National . From 1986 to 1988 Jacques Bompard was a member of the National Assembly for the Vaucluse department . He has been the mayor of Orange since 1995.

At the end of 2005, Bompard left the Front National and a little later joined the right-wing Mouvement pour la France . In 2010 Jacques Bompard resigned from the Mouvement pour la France, which he accused of too close ties to the UMP , and founded the Ligue du Sud party . In 2012 he was re-elected to the National Assembly in the parliamentary elections.

Jacques Bompard is a dental surgeon by profession.
