Jean Lhermitte
Jean Jacques Lhermitte (born January 20, 1877 in Mont-Saint-Père , Département Aisne , † January 24, 1959 in Paris ) was a French neurologist and neuropsychiatrist .
Life
His father was an artist. After his early training in Saint-Étienne , Jacques Jean Lhermitte studied medicine in Paris . He received his doctorate in 1907 and specialized in neurology.
In 1908 he became head of a mental hospital, later also professor of psychiatry and director of the Hôpital Salpêtrière . During the First World War he examined spinal cord injuries and dealt with neuropsychiatry.
He published publications on visual hallucinations and, as a deeply religious man, explored the gray area between theology and science. In this context, he also conducted studies on obsession and stigmatization .
The Lhermitte sign and the Lhermitte-Duclos syndrome are named after him.
