Jacques Marquet
Jacques Marquet (* 1710 in Paris ; † 1782 ibid), also known as Jaime Marquet in Spain , was a French architect who mainly created buildings in Spain.
Life
In the early 1750s, Jacques Marquet met Fernando de Silva y Álvarez de Toledo in Paris , who was the Spanish ambassador there. When he returned to Madrid , Marquet was invited there. Jacques Marquet created for Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba (also called "El Gran Duque") the Palacio de los duques de Alba in Piedrahíta and was by this at the court of Ferdinand VI. introduced. In 1755 Marquet was admitted to the 'Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando' Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando . In the following period he received numerous construction contracts in Madrid, Aranjuez and San Lorenzo de El Escorial . So he planned and built the main post office ( Casa de Correos ) at the Puerta del Sol between 1766 and 1768 .
