Jacques Martin (born June 22, 1851 in Visé ; † May 5, 1930 ibid) was a Belgian composer , conductor and musician .

As a young boy, he was taught the grading system . He was so fascinated by the structure and the theory that he trained himself further. When he was drafted into the military (fort artillery), he continued his musical studies in his spare time. Although he had just retired from military service, he took part in a Kapellmeister exam in the 5th Line Regiment in 1888 , which he successfully passed. In 1889 he was appointed conductor of the music corps of the 7th Line Regiment. This wind orchestra quickly gained a musical level. A regular visitor and later friend of Martin was the director of the Antwerp Conservatory , Peter Benoit . In 1911 he was retired from his orchestra, but in 1913 he was appointed Honorary Inspector of the Military Music Corps of Belgium. He was also the conductor of the Saint-Martin wind orchestra in Visé.
