Jacques Morel (sculptor)
Jacques Morel (* around 1395 in Avignon , † 1459 in Lyon ) was a French sculptor .
Life
Morel comes from a family of sculptors. Both his father and grandfather worked in Avignon. In 1418 he took over the management of the work on the cathedral of Lyon and completed the tomb of Cardinal de Saluces , which was destroyed in 1562. He later created the tombs of the Duke of Bourbon and his wife in Souvigny (1448-53) and the tomb of René I of Anjou in Angers , which he did not finish until his death. He was a fan of Claus Sluter , and if his style is less powerful, he shows considerable technical ability.
