Jacques Riousse (born March 17, 1911 in Neuilly sur Seine , † December 4, 2004 ) was a French artist and priest.

Life

schooldays

Jacques Riousse received his secondary education at the Collége de Juilly (Seine et Marne), which was directed by oratorians . His inclinations were mathematics and philosophy. After completing his baccalaureate , he began to acquire a license in mathematics, the school subject he taught at the Jesuit college in Amiens . This was followed by training in drawing at the local school for fine arts.

Second World War

Jacques Riousse was drafted during World War II. He was captured in Dunkirk in June 1940 and transferred to a camp in Pomerania . During his imprisonment he used his communicative talent by organizing cultural activities for his fellow prisoners.

Study of theology

In 1943 Jacques Riousse was released from captivity and in the same year he joined the Order Mission de France , which was founded the year before. Jacques Riousse was consecrated in Lisieux in 1948 in the Basilica of Sainte-Thérèse . As a worker priest, he was able to combine pastoral work with his profession. He worked in the Joinville film studios as an electrician, prop master and assistant director.

The apartment and studio of the artist Jacques Riousse are located in the basement of the St. Martin de Peille chapel.

Work as an artist

Jacques Riousse learned to manufacture church windows, electric welding and forging. He made frescoes and began to paint using various techniques. For his sculptures he used used material, mainly metal, often scrap from the Second World War.

In 1956, in agreement with the Mission des France, he moved into an unfinished modern chapel in St. Martin de Peille, a small village in the hinterland above Monte Carlo. Jacques Riousse also had the opportunity to establish his studio here. He exhibited his works in several places, for example in the Salon d'Art Sacré in Paris, also in Belgium and Germany, as well as on the Cote d'azur, where he also realized several stained glass windows (e.g. Maison de la Retraite de Cap d'Ail.)
