Jacques d'Arthois
Jacques d'Arthois (* 1613 in Brussels ; † 1686 ) was a Flemish landscape painter .
Jacques d'Arthois, a student of Jan Mertens , was formed after the landscape painters from Peter Paul Rubens ' school, especially after Jan Wildens . Powerful coloring, energetic, often crude brushwork are his own. His pictures, mostly of large proportions, were often sought after for churches and monasteries, decorated with representations from sacred history. David Teniers the Elder J. , Gaspar de Crayer and other painters worked with him. He took his preliminary designs particularly from the Soignes forest, which is why they suffer from a certain uniformity. You can find works by him in almost all of the main galleries.
