Jacques de Rue

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacques de Rue († executed 1378 ) was chamberlain to King Charles II of Navarre and one of his closest confidants.

He was arrested on March 25, 1378 while executing an order for Charles II. During the two subsequent interrogations, first in Corbeil and then in Châtelet , he betrayed the alliances between the King of Navarre and England and confessed to two poison attacks on Charles V of France , one in 1370 and the second in 1378.

On June 16, 1378, he and other men of the King of Navarre, including Pierre du Tertre , were brought before the Grand Chamber of the Parliament , where the accused again confessed. Jacques de Rue and Pierre du Tertre were sentenced to death and beheaded in the Quartier des Halles . Their heads were put on lances and remained at the place of execution . The bodies were dismembered: arms and legs were displayed on eight gallows that had been erected at the main city gates, the bodies were hung on the Gibet de Montfaucon .
