Jagiellonian Canal
The Jagiellonenkanal (formerly Kraffohlkanal , polish Kanał Jagielloński ) connects through the city Elbląg ( Elbing ) for refining Haff flowing river Elbląg with the Nogat , the most easterly of the estuary Vistula .
history
The canal was built in 1483 under the rule of the Jagiellonians , since western Prussia was connected to Poland and Lithuania in a personal union from 1466 onwards.
The 5.7 km long canal shortens the waterway from Elbing to Marienburg ( Malbork ) and the Vistula and saves river boats from having to cross the lagoon.
