The Elbląg ( German  Elbing ) is a 14.5 kilometer long river in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship that flows through the city of Elbląg ( German  Elbing ).

The Elbląg drains the Druzno ( German  Drausensee ) and flows into the Fresh Lagoon ( Polish Zalew Wiślany ) and thus into the Baltic Sea . It is navigable along its entire length and, as a maritime shipping route, connects the Elbinger seaport with the Frischen Haff.

Historical mention

Wulfstan , an Anglo-Saxon trader in the late 9th century, describes the river in Anglo-Saxon as Ilfing in his account of his journey from Haithabu to the Prussian trading town of Truso .
