Jaime Hilario

Jaime Hilario (real: Manuel Barbal i Cosín ; born January 2, 1898 in Enviny , Lleida province , Spain ; † January 18, 1937 in Tarragona ) was a Spanish religious and martyr of the Spanish Civil War. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .

Manuel Barbal Cosan joined the Christian School Brothers in 1917 and adopted Jaime Hilario as the religious name . Then he worked as a popular and successful teacher in various religious centers. From the 1930s, due to the deterioration in his hearing, which he had suffered from since childhood, he had to give up teaching and work as a gardener in the Tarragona community.

In June 1936 Jaime Hilario was arrested for belonging to the school brothers during the Spanish Civil War and murdered in January 1937 after his conviction.

It was Pope John Paul II. On April 29, 1990 beatified and in 1999 canonized .
