Cyrill Bertrán
Cyrill Bertrán (birth name: José Sanz Tejedor ; born March 20, 1888 in Lerma , † October 9, 1934 in Turon , Asturias ) was a Spanish religious and martyr . He is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church today.
Tejedor joined the brothers of the Christian schools in 1906 under the religious name Cyrill Bertrán . In 1925 he was appointed head of the Santander religious community . From 1933 he worked in a school in his community in Turon. In the course of the anti-clerical persecution during the period before the Spanish Civil War , Cyrill was murdered in Turon in 1934 together with 7 other members of his order and a Passionist priest.
He and his companion martyrs were of Pope John Paul II. On April 29, 1990 beatified and in 1999 canonized .
