Jaime Niño de Guzmán

Jaime Niño de Guzmán Quiroz (* 1934 ) is a former Bolivian general, politician and diplomat .

Life

Jaime Niño de Guzmán is married to Norah Rabaj de Niño de Guzman.

In 1967 Jaime Niño de Guzmán was Major Commander of the Grupo Táctico de la Fuerza Aérea in the Department of Santa Cruz and in this capacity was involved in the arrest and subsequent execution of the Argentine guerrilla leader Ernesto "Che" Guevara . Niño de Guzmán spoke to the prisoner Guevara and took his diary, the contents of which were later published. With the camera of the Cuban-American CIA employee Félix Rodríguez , he took the last known photo of the living Guevara, on which he can be seen surrounded by his guards. After Guevara was shot shortly afterwards, the body was tied to a skid of the helicopter led by Niño de Guzmán and then flown from La Higuera to Vallegrande , where it was presented to international media representatives and later buried in a secret location.

In 1976 Niño de Guzmán was aviation attaché at the Bolivian embassy in Lima . From November 9, 1976 to July 21, 1978 he was Minister of Education in the government cabinet of Hugo Banzer Suárez . From 1979 to 1980 he was in command of the Fuerza Aérea Boliviana .

In the parliamentary elections in 1993 he was elected for the UCS as a replacement parliamentarian for Michael Meier Finkelslein in the constituency in La Paz.

From 1998 to 2003 he was the ambassador of Bolivia in Vienna .
