Jair Rosenblum
Jair Rosenblum ( Hebrew יאיר רוזנבלום; * January 6, 1944 in Tel Aviv ; † August 27, 1996 in Holon ) was an Israeli composer.
Life
Rosenblum was born in Tel Aviv. He did his military service in the Israeli Army (IDF) as an accordionist in the Nachal troupe . He was musical director of the IDF Choir in the 1960s and 1970s.
Rosenblum composed songs for the army and navy music ensembles of the IDF, which he also conducted; in particular, he was known for the song Shir LaShalom ( Hebrew שיר לשלום, German 'A Song for Peace') (1970). He also composed music for film and television, and worked with a number of bands and choral groups. He also directed the annual Israeli music festivals. He wrote more than 1000 songs in his artistic life, including Giv'at HaTahmoshet ( Hebrew גבעת התחמושת; German 'battle on the ammunition hill ' ), Shalva ( Hebrew שלווה; German 'Friedfertigkeit' ) and Ma Avarech ( Hebrew מה אברך; German 'What will I bless him with' ).
He died at the age of 52 after a two-year illness.
After his death, Rosenblum's daughter Karen accepted a lifetime achievement award from the Association of Composers and Publishers (ACUM) in his place.
In 2005, readers of the Israeli news website voted Ynet Rosenblum 159th in the poll for the 200 greatest Israelis.
