Jairo Hernández

Jairo de Jesús Hernández Montoya (born August 13, 1972 in Calarcá , Quindío ) is a former Colombian cyclist .

Athletic career

Jairo Hernández was Colombian junior road racing champion in 1990. Five years later he was first overall at the Vuelta a Guatemala . In 1996 he won a stage at the Vuelta a Colombia and at the Vuelta al Tolima. In 1998 he was again successful in a section of the Vuelta a Colombia. In 1999 Hernández was first overall at the Clásico RCN and a year later he won a stage there.

At the Pan American Championships in 2001, Hernández was time trial champion . He also won another stage at the Vuelta a Colombia this year. In the 2003 season he won a stage at the Vuelta a Boyacà and at the Vuelta a los Santanderes. A year later he won two parts at the Vuelta a Colombia and the Doble Copacabana Grand Prix Fides . At the Vuelta de la Paz, he won a stage and was able to win the overall standings. He was also successful once at the Clásica Ciudad de Girardort. The following year he won stages at the Doble Copacabana Grand Prix Fides, the Clásica Nacional Marco Fidel Suárez and the Clásico RCN. In 2006 he was successful on a section of the Vuelta al Tolima and was able to win the overall ranking. In 2007 he drove one season for the Colombian Continental Team Colombia Es Pasion . He won one stage at the Clasica de Guarné and two stages at the Clásica Nacional Marco Fidel Suarez. In the 2009 season he ended his cycling career.
