Jacob Matthew "Jake" Lloyd (born March 5, 1989 in Fort Collins , Colorado ) is a retired American actor .

Life

At the age of five, Jake Lloyd moved with his family to California , where he was soon discovered by a talent agency. This was followed by appearances in commercials and first roles in series as well as in the film Unhook the Stars (A light in my heart) by Nick Cassavetes .

Acted as a talent, Jake Lloyd got the lead role of little boy in the movie Promise is Promised in 1996 . The flick became a worldwide hit and grossed around 130 million US dollars. Lloyd also appeared in front of the camera for various television commercials, including Ford , Gatorade , Kentucky Fried Chicken and Bayer .

After getting the role in Promised Is Promised, mainly from Arnold Schwarzenegger's support, the success of the film made him well-known to work on other film productions. In 1996, Lloyd played Mark Armstrong, the son of Apollo astronaut Neil Armstrong, in his TV film debut Apollo 11 . In 1998 he got the role of nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker in George Lucas ' science fiction film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .

As a child star, Lloyd was again acting for advertising. He was featured on Kellogg’s and Pepsi-Cola products through Star Wars marketing deals and starred in a spot for Jeep .

In June 2015, Lloyd was arrested for reckless driving , driving without a license and resisting arrest after he previously engaged in a car chase with South Carolina police. The chase ended when Lloyd flung off the road through a fence and came to a halt in a group of trees; Lloyd had been imprisoned since that incident. In April 2016, Lloyd's mother announced to TMZ that her son had schizophrenia and is now in inpatient psychiatric treatment.
