Jakob Erb

Jakob Erb (born February 3, 1858 in Wülflingen , today a district of Winterthur ; † October 1, 1940 in Winterthur) was a Swiss politician ( SP ) and the last mayor of Wülflingen.

biography

Erb was born in 1858 as the son of a farmer. He attended primary school in Wülflingen and secondary school in Neftenbach . After finishing school, he learned lathe work at Sulzer AG , and from 1880 he was foreman .

At the age of 18, Erb joined the Grütlianer and after its dissolution became a member of the SP. His first public office was from 1885 to 1903 in the Wülflingen secondary school administration. In 1898 he was elected Wülflingen's parish clerk. In 1902, as a member of the Grütlians, he also entered cantonal politics when he was elected to the cantonal council . In 1904 the parish clerk was elected to the parish council of Wülflingen. In 1908, Erb became a district judge at the district court of Winterthur , and he held the office - initially part-time, later full-time - until 1931. In 1911 he was elected to the board of directors of the EKZ , an office that he held until 1939.

Five years after his election to the local council, Erb was elected mayor of what was then the Winterthur agglomeration community. As the last mayor of Wülflingen, Erb played a major role in the city association and also represented the interests of the Winterthur suburban communities in cantonal politics. He acquired extensive knowledge of administrative law through self-study. After the successful city reunification in 1922, he was a member of the city council for ten years and became its president in 1926/27. In 1932 he resigned from the Cantonal Council and the Grand Municipal Council.
