Mihajlo Mitrović (born September 1, 1922 in Čačak ; † December 20, 2018 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav or Serbian architect.

Life

He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade in 1948 and was a fellow of the United Nations in France and Denmark in 1950. At the Serbian Institute for Urban Planning, he created general urban planning for Zajecar , Trstenik , Pirot , Niš , Banja Koviljaca , Lazarevac and Vrnjačka Banja as chief designer . In 1980 he was elected full professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.

His most notable works include: the Narcissus Resort in Zlatibor, the UN Headquarters in Banja Koviljaca , the Traveler Hotel, the Genex Tower and the Vasilije Ostroški Church in Belgrade.

He dealt with architectural journalism and criticism. He had a column in Zagreb Eye (1983-1989) and wrote from 1974-1983 for NIN magazine . For 42 years he has been consistently writing about architecture in the Politika column. He is the author of the books New Belgrade Architecture, Everything is Architecture and At the End of the Century.

Awards and honors

He received the October Prize of the City of Belgrade, the Borba List, the Architecture Salon, the main prize for SAS architecture and the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1999 he was promoted to an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade. He was elected President of the Academy of Architecture in 1999.
