Jakob Fuchs

Jakob Fuchs (born July 23, 1911 , † April 26, 1944 in Vienna ) was an Austrian glazier who was executed for resisting the Nazi dictatorship on the basis of alleged high treason .

biography

Fuchs worked in the Brunner glass factory in Brunn am Gebirge and was involved in the resistance against National Socialism . In this context, it can be associated with acts of sabotage in glass production. He was an advertiser and cashier in a cell of the Rote Hilfe in Brunn am Gebirge, which collected money for the relatives of the victims of the Nazi dictatorship.

He was on 15 February 1944 by the People's Court sentenced for conspiracy to commit high treason to death on April 26, 1944 executed . Contemporary witnesses (including Liane Scheiblauer, daughter of the glass worker Franz Ulrich) report that his persistent silence prevented the arrest and execution of many other Brunner glass workers. This is one of the reasons why the market town of Brunn am Gebirge named a street after him.
