Jakob Joseph Clausner
Jakob Joseph Clausner (born November 14, 1744 in Zug ; † July 5, 1797 there ) was a Swiss geodesist and engraver .
life and work
Clausner was Catholic and came from Zug. He was the son of the fisherman Karl Joseph Clausner. He married Barbara Sidler, daughter of Johann Franz Sidler, from Zug. From 1760 to 1762 he did an apprenticeship in copper engraving in Zug, from 1762 to 1767 he was an archive clerk in the Rheinau monastery , and from 1768 to 1770 he trained as a surveyor in Strasbourg . He then worked for the scholar, cartographer and military man Franz Fidel Landtwing (1714–1782), for whom he drew numerous maps. He later worked as a copperplate engraver and cartographer for the city of Zug and for clients throughout the Swiss Confederation. In 1795 the big fire in Zug destroyed his workshop and his publishing house.
