The European Union of Mountaineering Associations ( EUMA , German  European mountain sport's governing body ) is an association founded on November 25, 2017 Mountain Sports - umbrella organization headquartered in Brussels ( Belgium ). The EUMA sees itself as a lobby for mass alpine sport and names the issues of safety, infrastructure and nature conservation as its main areas of responsibility.

history

The EUMA was founded on November 25, 2017 in the Alpine Museum of the German Alpine Club in Munich by 23 national associations.

In addition to the 23 founding members, two Portuguese associations, the Alpenverein Südtirol , the Balkan Mountaineering Union , the Club Arc Alpin and the Mountaineering Union of Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina were joined by December 2019 .

“Together we can make a huge contribution to safety in mountain sports and to improving the network of huts and trails. And together we can also very effectively promote nature conservation in and free access to the European mountains "

In 2018, the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA) and the EUMA agreed to work together .

The assembly of Club Arc Alpin (CAA) decided on a “ collaborative membership ” with the EUMA and in 2019 became a contributing organization. The EUMA has also been cooperating with the European Hiking Association since 2019 .
