The Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña y Escalada (FEDME; translated : Spanish Association for Mountain and Climbing Sports ) is the national alpine association in Spain .

The organization was originally founded on July 1, 1922 as "Federación Española de Alpinismo" (German: Spanish Alpinism Association ) and has since been called "Federación de Montañismo" (German: Mountaineering Association ).

The purpose of the association is the protection of the mountains, the maintenance of mountain huts , the implementation of alpine excursions, the maintenance of the GR long-distance hiking trails and the support of mountain and winter sports such as mountain running , alpinism , mountain hiking , snowshoeing and ski mountaineering . In the sport of ski mountaineering, FEDME also looks after the Spanish national team and sets it up.

The FEDME oversees the Senderos de Gran Recorrido long-distance hiking network .

The FEDME is a founding member of the multilateral agreement of reciprocal rights to smelters , which was introduced in 1978, and is a UIAA member , and since 2017 a member of the EUMA . Jordi Pons Sanjines has been an honorary member of the UIAA since 2007 .
