The Liechtenstein Alpine Association ( LAV ) is one of the oldest associations in the Principality of Liechtenstein and has over 2,800 members (for comparison: the State of Liechtenstein has 38,557 inhabitants). He wants to promote mountaineering and, above all, teach young people how to experience nature. Awakening and promoting thoughts and endeavors for the local nature and landscape protection is also a goal.

The Alpine Association based in Schaan operates two mountain huts , the Gafadurahütte and the Pfälzerhütte . The origin of the association can also be found in the name of the latter. Founded on March 25, 1909 as the “Liechtenstein” section of the German and Austrian Alpine Association, the association became independent on July 5, 1946. In conjunction with the government agencies, he organizes mountain rescue and plant protection .

Today the association operates an office (secretariat) in Vaduz , participates in the legislation that affects the purpose of the association and tries to help comply with nature conservation laws.

The LAV is a member of Club Arc Alpin (CAA), EUMA since 2017 , UIAA since 1959 and a member of the multilateral agreement on reciprocal rights to huts .
