Jakob Juratzka

Jakob Juratzka , also Jacob, (born July 8, 1821 in Olomouc ; † November 22, 1878 in Vienna ) was an Austrian botanist ( bryologist ). Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Jur. "

Live and act

Juratzka went to school in Olomouc and originally wanted to become a doctor, which prevented an ear disease. He became an employee in the kk tobacco factory directorate in Vienna, then in the accounting department of the state railways in the Ministry of Commerce and from 1854 in the land registry.

Juratzka dealt with mosses from 1858 and was one of the most famous bryologists in Austria. His herbarium is in Vienna.

His son was also a bryologist.

Honors

The genera Juratzkaea Lorentz 1866 and Juratzkaeella Buck 1977 are named after him.
