Jakob Ludwig Schönfeld

Jakob Ludwig Schönfeld (born March 1, 1785 in Nierstein , † April 1, 1866 in Wendelsheim ) was a soldier in the Napoleonic Wars and knight of the Legion of Honor .

Life

Schönfeld was the son of pastor Ludwig Heinrich Schönfeld (1750–1824) and his wife Wilhelmina Philippina born. Wagner (1761-1841). In 1789 his father took over a pastorate in Wendelsheim. At the age of 17, he volunteered in the Imperial French Army . The campaigns took him to France, Spain and Italy. In 1815 he returned to Wendelsheim as Chevalier de l'ordre royal de la légion d'honneur . As a result, he tried in vain to be accepted into the army of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

He spent the rest of his life as a farmer and winemaker in Wendelsheim. He remained a staunch supporter of Napoleon throughout his life and campaigned for the erection of various veteran monuments. His name can be found on the memorial stone in Wöllstein .
